The City of Peoria is searching for an energetic, self-driven person to join the Solid Waste Division. This position will have direct contact with City staff across various departments and divisions, as well as vendors and contacts from other municipalities. The purpose of this position is to provide oversight to solid waste employees including supervisors, coordinators, inspectors, and equipment operators. Duties include but are not limited to supervision and oversight of operational and outreach programs and projects. The position will utilize both communication and project management skills to provide excellent customer service support to the citizens of the City of Peoria.

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Previous supervisory experience in solid waste collection or environmental services
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Strong computer skills, including a working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong leadership skills
  • Previous routing experience

Minimum Requirements:

  • Education: Associate's degree in any field or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of five years related experience. Requires a working knowledge of specialized practices, complex systems, equipment and workflow systems and procedures in the application of solid waste collection and environmental services including planning, estimating, and budgeting.
    • An equivalent combination of related experience and education may be considered.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems Certification within 1 year of hire.
  • ADEQ- Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) Certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Valid AZ Driver's License upon hire.

Preferred / Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience in municipal or government setting.
  • Five or more years of experience in operational budgeting.
  • Five or more years of experience in project management.
  • Previous supervisory experience.
  • Significant experience in solid waste collection, routing, education and enforcement.
