Position Highlights BIO5 Institute at the University of Arizona is in search of a Research Technician- Koshy Lab (Research Technician I). The position is tasked with carrying out technical aspects of research activities to understand the interaction between the brain and the protozoan parasite, Toxoplasma gondii. The position's major responsibilities will be making/maintaining HFFs, mouse colony management, and ordering/stocking/lab maintenance.

The ideal candidate for this position will enthusiastically take ownership of tasks and project management role as needed. They will be a self-starter who takes initiative to make improvements and handle incoming requests. We are looking for someone who enjoys learning new tools, techniques, and is able to maintain professionalism while under pressure.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & responsibilities:

* Cell culture maintenance for the lab - including splitting and passing primary cells and immortalized cells.

* Helps to manage mouse colony.

* Responsible for stocking the lab and ordering supplies as needed.

* Trains new laboratory members, including ensuring they have done appropriate online and in person training as well as any appropriate lab tests.

* Operates laboratory equipment and performs minor equipment maintenance. Communicates with service technicians for major equipment repairs or service.

Knowledge, skills & abilities:

* Knowledge of Toxoplasma gondii

* Ability to make genetically manipulated cells and parasites

* Intimate knowledge of Microsoft Work, Excell, PowerPoint, ImagJ, Flojo and Prism

Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required.
Preferred QualificationsExperience with:
  • Working with and genetically manipulating eukaryotic parasites
  • DNA, RNA, protein, cell, and tissue isolation and purification
  • Big data analysis (specifically transcriptional analysis)
  • Cell culture
  • Western blotting
  • Quantitative PCR and RT-PCR
  • Immunohistochemistry and immunofluorescence
  • Wet lab
  • Handling mice
