Position Summary:
Under general supervision, verifies and keeps records on incoming and outgoing shipments. Duties include assembling, addressing, stamping and shipping merchandise or material, receiving, unpacking, verifying and recording incoming merchandise or material and arranging for the transportation of products.
Safety inspects work areas and equipment to ensure compliance with company safety policies and regulations. Responsibilities also include documenting safety inspections, reporting dangerous areas/procedures and recommending corrective procedures, and maintaining safety equipment supply and availability.
Warehouse Generalist Essential Functions:
  • Examine content and compare with records, such as manifests, invoices or orders to verify accuracy of incoming or outgoing shipment
  • Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading and shipping orders to route materials
  • Record shipment data, such as weight, charges, space availability and damages and discrepancies, for reporting, accounting and recordkeeping purposes
  • Determine shipping method for materials, using knowledge of shipping procedures, routes and rates
  • Deliver or route materials to departments, using work devices such as hand trucks, conveyer or sorting bin.
  • Pack, seal, label and affix postage to prepare materials for shipping, using work devices such as hand tools, power tools and postage meter
Shop Safety Champion Essential Functions:
  • Enforce and promote Safety to prevent or correct unsafe environmental working conditions
  • Inspect facilities, machinery, and safety equipment to identify and correct potential hazards, and to ensure safety regulation compliance
  • Maintain and apply knowledge of current policies, regulations and industrial processes
  • Investigate industrial accidents, injuries or occupational diseases to determine causes and preventive measures
  • Conduct or coordinate worker training in areas such as safety laws and regulations, hazardous condition monitoring, and use of safety equipment.
  • Retention of documents within a training data base
  • Interview employees to obtain information about work environments and workplace incidents.
  • Review plans and specifications for construction of new machinery or equipment to determine whether all safety requirements have been met.
  • Recommend process and product safety features that will reduce employees' exposure to chemical, physical, and biological work hazards.
  • Conduct or direct testing of air quality, noise, temperature, or radiation levels to verify compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Verify all employee certifications and schedule trainings to keep them up to date.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Thorough knowledge of theories, practices and requirements of the Occupational, Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).
  • Thorough knowledge of the practices and requirements of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA). (MSHA trainer preferred.)
  • Ability to communicate both in writing and verbally.
  • Ability to stand up in front of audiences and provide training.
  • Ability to recognized and take action on potential safety hazards.
  • Proficient in the use of computer word processing, spreadsheet, power point.
  • Ability to effectively interact with employees and customers.
  • Customer and Personal Service - Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it
  • Critical Thinking - Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Complex Problem Solving - Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions
  • Gathering Information - Observe, receive and otherwise obtain information from all relevant sources
  • Making decisions and solving problems - Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems

Other Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Confer and correspond with establishment representatives to rectify problems, such as damages, shortages and non conformance to specifications
  • Requisition and store shipping materials and supplies to maintain inventory of stock
  • Contact carrier representative to make arrangements and to issue instructions for shipping and delivery of materials
  • Compute amounts, such as space available, and shipping, storage and other applicable charges using a calculator or a price list
Training/Education and/or Special Qualifications:
An appropriate mix of education and experience which would allow the employee to obtain the knowledge, skills and abilities listed above.
Physical Requirements and/or Working Environment:
  • Work will require some office duties but general on the shop floor work is required.
  • Work may require extensive periods of walking and standing.
  • May be susceptible to repetitive motion injuries.
  • Medium to heavy physical effort required as incoming and outgoing deliveries may be in excess of 50 lbs.
  • Limited exposure to physical risk.
  • Work will require forklift operation.
