Job Title: Music Instructor

FLSA Status: Part Time - non-exempt, Temporary
Reports to: Corps Officers

Schedule: 3 hours/day, M-F starting July 8th, 2024
Supervises: N/A

Start Date: Camp begins July 8th, 2024

Closing Date: 4/1/2024

Rate of Pay: $20/hour

Benefits: Temporary; Part-Time, Non-Exempt employees are eligible for but not limited to the following:

  • Sick leave benefit - 1 day per month, 12 sick days per year (accrual and availability begins at hire; sick accrual is pro-rated for part time hours)

Function: The Music Instructor will help teach and lead instruction during our summer music day camp from July 8 - 19, 2024. They will be an integral part of encouraging our summer music day camp attendees to participate in their chosen instrument (piano, guitar, bass, or percussion).

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the supervision of children in the summer music day camp.
  • Assist in maintaining a healthy and safe environment for children.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and be a role model for all music day camp staff.
  • Uphold an atmosphere in line with the Mission of The Salvation Army which will promote spiritual, physical, intellectual, and social growth among its guests, staff, and others.
  • Implement and develop a program curriculum for summer music day camp attendees.
  • Assist in teaching music day camp attendees the basics of their instrument operation and proper technique.
  • Encourage group participation throughout music day camp to enhance each child's skills.
  • Teach various music theories throughout the duration of music day camp.
  • Monitor progression of each student's music proficiency.
  • Assist in keeping facilities, materials and equipment utilized by the summer music day camp clean and in good working order.
  • Adherence to all Salvation Army Policies and Procedures including Protecting the Mission.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualification and Education Requirements:

  • Experience teaching musical instruction (1-2 years) along with a High School diploma, or equivalent. Education background or music degree, preferred.
    • Be supportive of The Salvation Army's mission. Ability to reflect and model the high standards of our organization as one of the world's most distinguished human services charitable organizations.
    • Capable of meeting the physical and mental demands of the position.
    • Able to pass a background check and complete The Salvation Army's child safety training (Protecting the Mission).
