Position Highlights

The Office of General Education (OGE) is currently seeking adjunct instructors to teach sections of the 1-unit UNIV 101: Introduction to the General Education Experience and UNIV 301: General Education Portfolio courses. Using common syllabi and readings, these courses provide a foundation for students' general education study (UNIV 101) and an opportunity to reflect upon and demonstrate learning from their general education experience (UNIV 301). The OGE is seeking instructors with a passion for general education, teaching and learning.

Teaching will be either in-person for the 15-week semester (fall and/or spring semesters) or fully online and asynchronous for 7-week terms (fall, spring and/or summer terms). Teaching assignment is dependent on student enrollment.

The General Education Administration recognizes that flexible work arrangements can provide employees with many benefits. This type of arrangement would allow the selected candidate to teach remotely within the state of Arizona.

Duties & Responsibilities

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Attend and complete UNIV 101/301 instructor orientation and training during the week prior to the start of classes
  • Training will include synchronous sessions and asynchronous work. Teaching assignments are contingent upon completion of these training sessions.
  • Teach 2-6 sections of UNIV 101 and/or UNIV 301 using a pre-designed syllabus, instructor guide, D2L course site and a common online textbook.
  • Secure class coverage when needed for emergent conflicts with class time for in-person classes.
  • Hold weekly office hours for students in the course.
  • Attend weekly 60-minute instructional team meetings.
  • Provide weekly grading, feedback, and support to students

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge and demonstrated use of learner-centered teaching, universal design for learning, and inclusive teaching practices.
  • Knowledge of and the ability to communicate the purpose and value of general education.
  • Knowledge of and/or use of ePortfolio pedagogy.
  • Ability to establish rapport with students.
  • Ability to use a variety of instructional technologies.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with an instructional team.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree or higher in Education, Higher Education, Student Development, Adult Learning, or related field; or, Master's degree or higher in any discipline plus 18 graduate units in Education, Higher Education, Student Development, Adult Learning, or related field; or Master's degree or higher in any discipline plus a minimum of three years teaching or professional experience working with undergraduate students.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate students in for-credit courses or non-credit experiences.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD or terminal degree in Education, Higher Education, Student Development, Adult Learning, or related field; or, PhD or terminal degree in any discipline plus 18 graduate units in Education, Higher Education, Student Development, Adult Learning, or related field; or PhD or terminal degree in any discipline plus a minimum of three years teaching or professional experience working with undergraduate students.
  • Three years experience teaching undergraduate courses.
  • Experience teaching online.
