About the Role

The Senior Payroll Analyst is responsible for the preparation and processing of a complex, multi-state payroll. Work with a variety of non-integrated systems and processes throughout various time zones. Work with and lead employee groups and corporate entities/FEIN's.

The Senior Payroll Analyst will research and advise payroll staff concerning the accounting of complex transactions. Perform periodic internal audits of various payroll areas and prepare materials for external or internal auditors. Perform payroll accounting. Act as the back up to the Payroll Supervisor.

What you'll do:

  • Manage all payroll adjustments and other submissions received. Validate completeness and accuracy of requests to ensure compliance with payroll practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Enter employee maintenance items; validate set up against known hierarchy for pay entity or employee group. Post audit changes, run validation reports, and submit additional cross audits. Work closely with and oversee Payroll Analysts to ensure that all maintenance is entered in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Process payroll according to established deadlines and timelines. Report delays or technical concerns impacting payroll to leadership. Follow up until the issue is resolved and the payroll run is approved and finalized.
  • Evaluate approved timecards for various groups, Balance timecards against time system reports. Question and proactively resolve exceptions.
  • Ensure new processes and work aids are documented appropriately. Actively work to improve and streamline processes to increase accuracy and efficiency.
  • Ability to learn and implement new technology to streamline processes.
  • Understanding of multi-state payroll regulations to ensure payroll compliance. Understanding of laws regarding wage attachments and payroll deductions, direct deposit, and employee consent and confidentiality.
  • Understanding of various Collective Bargaining Agreements and their alignment with payroll calculations, processes, and best practices.
  • Ability to query and/or build new reports from various systems to analyze payroll data along with employee Masterfile, organizational and employee lists, etc. Periodically review data to ensure alignment of data prior to the preparation of various SOX reporting. Run reports to satisfy a variety of requests for data.
  • Foster and build strong working relationships with business partners at all locations, particularly Human Resources, Benefits, IT, Accounting, Crewing, and the Executive Staff as well as their support.
  • Prepare monthly account reconciliations to ensure all payroll financial activities have been recorded in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Special projects and due diligence as determined by business need.

  • Must have acute attention to detail, ability to multitask effectively, and work within strict deadlines.
  • Able to learn and retain information of new software programs as needed in the position.
  • Able to speak to provide direction and or information as required by the role.
  • Active listening skills to understand and communicate customer needs.

And these qualifications:

  • Minimum High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of one (1) year Payroll Analytic experience, within a multi-state environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills that lend to both independent work and/or work in a team environment.

Extra credit if you have:

  • Bachelor's Degree in relevant field.
  • Transportation industry experience.
