The University of Arizona Cancer Center (UACC) is a National Cancer Institute (NCI)-designated comprehensive cancer center dedicated to the prevention and cure of cancer through patient care, research, and education. The UACC has recently been re-designated as a National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The UACC is the only NCI-Designated Comprehensive Cancer Center headquartered in the State of Arizona and one of only 53 in the nation.

The One Health initiative in conjunction with the Integrative Cancer Scholars NCI Training Grant seeks a talented Postdoctoral Research Associate to pursue innovative research projects that encompass cancer and One Health issues. One Health is a collaborative, multisectoral, and transdisciplinary approach with the goal of achieving optimal health outcomes, recognizing the interconnection between people, animals, plants, and their shared environment. The successful candidate will be a highly motivated and independent individual with an established track record of cancer-focused research achievement (basic, translational, or clinical). Candidates must have completed projects with a One Health focus at the intersection of environmental, human, and animal health, with at least two elements integral to the project. Interested applicants should have an MD or PhD in biomedical sciences, and expertise in cancer biology, chemistry, and/or molecular and cellular biology laboratory techniques.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Lead a research project in close collaboration with the PI and other lab members.
  • Innovate new areas of experimental inquiry.
  • Advance technical aspects of experimental approaches and mechanistic understanding of cancer problems.
  • Mentor junior lab members and contribute to a productive scientific environment.
  • Maintain detailed records and disseminate research findings in meetings and as manuscripts in scientific journals.
  • Apply for independent funding and contribute to grant proposals submitted by the PI.
  • There may be additional duties assigned as it relates to this position.

  • Skilled in cell/molecular/cancer biology laboratory techniques
  • Skills in computational analysis (optional)
  • Excellent organizational/record-keeping skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Self-motivated and enthusiastic about scientific inquiry
Minimum Qualifications
  • Candidates must have a doctoral degree in the biomedical sciences.
  • Candidate must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Projects with a One Health focus at the intersection of environmental, human, and animal health; at least 2 of these elements must be integral to the project.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in cell/molecular/cancer biology laboratories.
  • Experience in computational analysis.
