The School of Music is looking for a Piano Technician to join us who will be responsible for maintaining and tuning the School's piano inventory under the supervision of the department head.

Main duties include:
  • Weekly maintenance of assigned classroom pianos including tuning, voicing, and action adjustments.
  • Regular maintenance of practice room pianos including tuning, voicing and action adjustments.
  • Scheduled tuning and maintenance of teaching studio pianos as directed by the department head including tuning, voicing and action adjustments.
Additional duties include:
  • Maintenance hammer filing and voicing, action repair and regulation as needed.
  • Misc. Repairs such as string replacement, case repairs, artist bench maintenance, etc.
  • Scheduled action parts replacement and subsequent regulation and hammer voicing to provide the highest level of musical performance possible.
  • Recording all work performed in inventory database.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Weekly maintenance of assigned classroom pianos: Tunes, repairs, voicing, action adjustments, and maintains pianos to ensure optimal performance and sound quality.
  • Scheduled tuning and maintenance of teaching studio pianos as directed by the department head including tuning, voicing and action adjustments.
  • Regular maintenance of practice room pianos including tuning, voicing and action adjustments.
  • Maintenance hammer filing and voicing, action repair and regulation as needed.
  • Misc. Repairs such as string replacement, case repairs, artist bench maintenance, etc.
  • Scheduled action parts replacement and subsequent regulation and hammer voicing to provide the highest level of musical performance possible.
  • Recording all work performed in inventory database.
  • Provides routine assistance that is guided by prescribed processes and procedures.
  • Performs duties under supervision and receives detailed instruction from supervisor to perform work.
  • Performs work with limited knowledge and operation of University systems and department tools.
  • May assist on projects and tasks as needed
  • Maintains records on piano repairs
  • Moves pianos safely from one location to another

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and skilled in tuning, voicing, repairing and action regulation of various piano makes and models and specific knowledge of Steinway & Sons manufacturing and service procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience is required.
