Position Highlights

This position will be housed in our Flagstaff office.

Primary duties are to conduct a variety of standard vegetation sampling procedures for inventory and monitoring of soils and vegetation on rangeland ecosystems and to summarize, analyze and display results using GIS software. Most field work will occur on public lands administered by the U.S. Forest Service (USFS).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct vegetation sampling at locations throughout the assigned area using electronic field devices and summarize results.
  • Evaluate and update USFS files with summarized field data and provide reports to USFS personnel and grazing permittees.
  • Enter, display, and analyze results spatially using GIS mapping applications and tools.
  • Review and evaluate monitoring plans and procedures for adequacy and consistency.
  • Evaluate monitoring techniques.
  • Assist other efforts of the United Forest Service Rangeland Monitoring Program as needed.
  • Teach and assist USFS personnel and grazing permittees regarding range monitoring techniques and protocols.
  • Assemble and present rangeland data and results at workshops and national meetings as requested.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent advanced learning attained through experience required.
  • 1 year of relevant work experience required.
  • Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in natural resources or agriculture
