Position Highlights Postdoctoral positions are available to qualified applicants in the laboratory of Dr. Janko Nikolich (formerly Nikolich-Zugich) in the Department of Immunobiology, College of Medicine, and University of Arizona. Qualified applicants will provide expertise and perform experiments to define immune mechanisms underlying the development of accelerated geriatric syndromes affecting individuals living, and aging, with ART-controlled HIV. A competitive candidate will possess demonstrable expertise in at least one of the following areas: cellular immunology, virology (especially prior work with HIV), molecular biology, or biochemistry. Candidates should be amenable to training others to experimentally validate new hypotheses emerging from this laboratory's work. Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent experiments, evaluate the data, and keep appropriate records of all research activities.
  • Read the literature, participate in scientific discussions with other members of the lab, and attend mandatory lab meetings.
  • Cross-correlate and integrate results from different types of analysis and report on findings. Together with PI, formulate hypotheses on new pathways underlying immune aging.
  • Receive training in wet-lab immunology and virology techniques and perform experiments to validate hypotheses, specifically related to microbial pathogens and the intersect of aging and genetics in biological outcomes.
  • Participate and/or attend departmental functions and lectures.
  • Perform assigned lab duties to assist in the maintenance of stock reagents or the general operation of the lab, and various other duties or projects as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Eager to perform novel multidisciplinary experiments.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in virology, immunology, biochemistry, chemistry, molecular biology, or related fields.
  • Experience performing molecular biology, flow cytometry, and mouse model work.
  • Basic understanding of virus-host interactions and immune ageing.
