The Center for Innovation in Brain Science (CIBS) is a new and exciting research nexus at the University of Arizona cultivating collaborations and providing expertise in the area of translational neuroscience. The Faculty in CIBS conduct cutting-edge research primarily related to four specific age-related neurodegenerative disorders - Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Amytrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Plan, design and conduct innovative research projects independently and in consultation with principle investigator.
  • Analyze research data and provide interpretations.
  • Perform experiments for extramural funding.
  • Prepare technical reports and/or records, and research documentation for publication and grant application.
  • Present research findings at group meetings, national and international conferences.
  • Share supervisory responsibility for junior research technical staff including graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Center for Innovation in Brain Science research team.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or equivalent degree in related area at the time of appointment.
  • Strong record of publications in peer reviewed, internationally-recognized scientific journals in the same or related field.
  • Sufficient manuscript writing experience is expected.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced knowledge and strong research experience in neurodegenerative diseases.
  • Strong research experience in interventional studies (pharmaceutical, nutraceutical or dietary) targeting mitochondria and other components in energy metabolism and oxidative stress.
  • Rodent-related experience, including animal model development and maintenance, rodent surgeries and treatment, and behavioral-, cognitive- and biochemical analyses of rodent models.
  • Primary cell culture, and other general cellular and molecular biology techniques.
