WHO IS CANCER SUPPORT COMMUNITY ARIZONA (CSCAZ)? Cancer Support Community Arizona (CSCAZ) opened its doors in March of 1999 with a mission "To ensure that all people impacted by cancer are empowered by knowledge, strengthened by action and sustained by community." CSCAZ programs are designed to ensure people affected by cancer can learn vital skills to regain control, reduce feelings of isolation and restore hope throughout their cancer journey. Programs are provided free of charge in both Phoenix and Flagstaff for English and Spanish speaking participants. In 2019, almost 4,000 adults, teens, and children were supported by CSCAZ programs.
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Chief Program Officer (CPO) provides day-to-day leadership and management in the five pillars of Programs at Cancer Support Community Arizona. These include education sessions, support group services, healthy lifestyle programs, resource and referral services, and social connections for all groups. Programs serves people directly impacted by cancer; their caregivers, family and friends; and youth and teens impacted by cancer. There is an emphasis on providing bilingual and bicultural programs in English and Spanish. As a key member of the senior management team, the CPO reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and establishes vision and strategies promoting research-based programs, services, and organizational culture.
OBJECTIVES OF THIS ROLE
Officer in Organization
Oversees employee productivity, building a highly inclusive culture ensuring team members thrive and organizational outcomes are met.
Ensures effective recruiting, onboarding, professional development, performance management and retention of the staff within the Program department.
Regularly seeks avenues of Program expansion within state of Arizona and collaborates with the CEO to ensure sustainable expansion.
Must feel comfortable with public speaking including conducting presentations to a variety of audiences regarding CSCAZ’s positive work and impact on the community.
Supports CEO in developing agendas, materials, and other items as needed for Board and Committee meetings.
Program
Design, deliver, and ensure quality improvement of programs across the five pillars
Maintain clinical and ethical compliance according to state standards and the Cancer Support Community model
Supervise program staff
Facilitate and lead the Professional Advisory/Program Committee of the Board of Directors
Plan, analyze, and report on program delivery, participation, and satisfaction
Experience in program design/development for successful grant writing
Leadership
Participate in national Cancer Support Community regional and national meetings
Represent, when needed, Cancer Support Community Arizona at the statewide level
Provide the CEO and Board of Directors meaningful, timely program data
Communications and Outreach
Provide program content for marketing and communication purposes: weekly eblasts, monthly newsletters, etc.
Plan program calendar activities
Participate in program calendar across departments
Represent CSCAZ whenever possible in public speaking role and/or other media opportunities

EDUCATION AND TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE:
Possess a minimum of a master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, or comparable clinical degree
Experience in or knowledge of the Psycho-Oncology model utilized by Cancer Support Community
Minimum of 10 years supervisory experience
Minimum of 5 years’ experience working with nonprofits
(Preferred) Current clinical licensure in the state of Arizona (or license eligible)
(Preferred) Spanish Bilingual
