    Overview

Since our founding in 1999, we’ve become a leader in proactive health and performance, trusted by more than 150 clients, including corporations, academic institutions, health systems, sports organizations, the U.S. military, community centers, and residential communities. While making-the-world-a-better-place is often taken lightly these days, we’re actually trying to live up to its original intent by helping people get stronger, recover faster, feel less pain, and get healthier. In order to do this, we need to see the world through the eyes of our members and design compelling communications to help them achieve their goals. That’s why we need your help.

    Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Service Designer to help us map out end-to-end experiences, develop products, and shape the flow of physical spaces based on the needs, wants, and desires of groups and individuals looking to perform at their best and achieve more in life.

We’re looking for an empathetic generalist at heart who lives to simplify complexity, constantly seeks ways to improve things, gets up in the morning to make stuff, uses design thinking principles in their day-to-day life, and stays ahead of the curve when it comes to service design best practices.

    DAY-TO-DAY RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Partner with marketing leads, planners, and researchers during the customer definition phase:
      • Facilitate workshops that lead to the creation of personas, experience maps, and other tools to help illustrate current behavior and potential business opportunities.
      • Help conduct field research as needed to gain customer insights from users and coaches and identify opportunities to alleviate pain points within current experiences.
      • Reference these insights and opportunities when making design decisions.
    • Partner with creatives and human performance leads during the design phase
      • Immerse yourself in and understand existing services, products, and spaces before attempting to improve them.
      • Know when to re-imagine entire experiences instead of simply improving aspects of them.
      • Think about every single touchpoint within the experience — including the operational considerations required to change the status quo and all marketing communication opportunities to educate, activate, and engage your target audience.
      • Roll-up your sleeves and develop service blueprints, ecosystem diagrams, storyboards, sketches, wireframes, lo/hi-fi prototypes (physical + digital), and any other deliverables that help communicate the intended experience.
      • Work with creative teams to develop visual identity, UI, content, and all supporting messaging + materials to shape 360-degree experiences.
      • Develop and execute test plans to quickly gauge success of the prototypes you create.
    • Engage with the broader organization during the development, launch, and learning phases to:
      • Ensure the desired experience is built and delivered as intended.
      • Partner with researchers to understand what worked and what didn’t work.
      • Identify additional opportunities for improvement.
    • Other duties as assigned.
    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • You have a minimum of 4 years of applied, hands-on service design experience.
    • You graduated with a BA/BS degree in Human Factors, HCI/Computer Science, Industrial Design, UX, Architecture, or a related field that has helped you transition into a service design career.
    • You have a strong portfolio that demonstrates both design thinking and making. Understanding how you’ve worked on past projects will be a critical part of the initial vetting process, so we’re asking all candidates to share any relevant artifacts (e.g., personas, experience maps, service blueprints, wireframes, prototypes, etc.) to give us a better sense of your skills.

    Our Ideal Candidate Profile:

    • Problem-solving skills through the lens of service design and design thinking
      • You are wired to think cross-channel – not just digital, not just physical.

      • You live to apply things you’ve learned from the fields of interaction design, graphic design, industrial design, package design, game design, architectural design, and other design disciplines that don’t have a name yet in order to solve problems.

      • You are passionate about both the arts and the sciences.

      • You are able to employ zoom control as you’re examining opportunities and solutions to ensure no detail is missed while being able to see the forest from the trees.

      • You can shift effortlessly from in-person experiences to digital ecosystems and back.

      • You love telling stories that capture the attention of clients and end-users alike.

      • You love making stuff.

      • You love trying different things to see what sticks.

      • You always advocate for the end-user.

    • Technical skills
      • You are proficient in UX tools such as Axure, Adobe XD, Figma, InVision, UXPin, etc.

      • You can use design tools such as Illustrator, Photoshop, Sketch, etc.

      • You have working knowledge of 3D design tools such as SketchUp, CAD, Revit, 3ds Max, etc.

      • You have used HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Objective-C, and/or Python as needed to hack together websites, mobile apps, chatbots, and IoT applets (e.g., IFTTT).

      • You are curious about AI, AR, VR, MR, VUI, and a whole bunch of other acronyms.

      • You love making physical models using anything you can get your hands on.

      • You aren’t afraid to pick up a hammer and some nails to build stuff in the real world.

    • Soft skills
      • You are an extremely detail-oriented, organized multi-tasker.

      • You have strong verbal and written communication skills.

      • You listen before you speak.

    • Other (obvious) qualities
      • You love collaborating with others to solve problems.

      • You are self-driven and have an entrepreneurial spirit.

      • You are able to adjust on the fly without getting tripped up.

      • You are passionate about helping others achieve their goals.

      • You are able to travel as needed – especially when it comes to creating on-site experiences. The exact percentage of travel required will vary based on what you design and recommend.
