University of Arizona (UA) Health Sciences seeks a motivated and ambitious professional to join the development team in support of our efforts to raise significant levels of philanthropic support for the UA College of Pharmacy. The Director of Development will report to the Sr. Vice President, Health Sciences Development and the Dean, UA College of Pharmacy. This position will be responsible for managing a donor portfolio of $1M+ and works directly with major gift prospects to secure gifts of $25,000 or more to further the goals and objectives the College of Pharmacy. This position is subject to joint management by UA Health Sciences and the University of Arizona Foundation as specified in the Development Services and Asset Management Agreement dated August 2016.

Local, statewide, and out of state travel will encompass meeting with donors, attending fundraising events, and the travel associated with coordinating philanthropic support. The successful candidate will need to have access to reliable transportation, have a valid driver's license, and will also receive additional detailed information regarding training for UA vehicle operation.

• Promote and maintain a culture of philanthropy across the College of Pharmacy and the University of Arizona.

• Maintain a portfolio of prospects that support fundraising goals of the College of Pharmacy.

• Secure major gift private support for the College of Pharmacy.

• Identify, cultivate, solicit and steward major gift donor prospects ($25,000+).

• Build and manage a portfolio of approximately 50-70 major gift prospects and donors.

• Effectively manages prospect identification, qualification/disqualification, cultivation and solicitation practices.

• Work with College and UDP leadership to develop and enforce fund-raising priorities.

• Establish and cultivate relationships with the College of Pharmacy leadership, faculty and staff in an effort to educate them on the role of development and to help build relationships with potential donors.

• Plan, implement and manage a comprehensive development program.

• Design and implement specific plans of action for a portfolio of major and principal gift prospects.

• After an initial 3 to 6-month on-boarding period, execute an agreed upon metric of at least 100 current or prospect donor visits and presentation of 15+ major gift proposals per year, with an expectation of $1M+ raised after the initial on-boarding period (with incremental increases after the first year).

• Participate in the strategic planning of program initiatives.

• Work to maintain and cultivate relationships with donors and potential donors.

• Coordinate activities with the central staff at the University of Arizona Foundation as well as development officers in other colleges and centers.

• Work within all established University of Arizona Foundation guidelines and the University of Arizona Gift policy to establish and maintain necessary internal processes and procedures.

• Understanding of and interest in issues pertaining to research, drug discovery, and health care.

• Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills to work effectively with donors, volunteers and faculty members.

• Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles and procedures, including individual, foundation and corporate giving; planning giving; and capital campaigns.

• Ability to operate a personal computer and related office equipment.

• Ability to analyze and solve problems with minimal supervision.

• Ability to work independently and effectively with minimal supervision.

• Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents and work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment.

• Demonstrated success in a fundraising capacity.

• Demonstrated knowledge of fundraising principles and procedures.

• Knowledge of using Microsoft Office Suite products, particularly Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Ability to work in and contribute to a highly collaborative team environment.

• Bachelor's degree AND five (5) years' experience of major gift development experience in a higher education, non-profit or health sciences setting, or appropriate transferable skills.

• Demonstrated success in fundraising capacity.

• Demonstrated knowledge of fund raising principles and procedures.

• Travel will be required and occasional overnight stays may be involved.

• Will be required to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary to cultivate and solicit donor prospects.

• A valid driver's license with the ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.

• Development experience in academic medicine or healthcare setting.

• Development experience in higher education setting.

• Demonstrated success in planning, organizing and managing fund-raising campaigns.

• Knowledge of Raisers Edge fundraising system.

• Knowledge of higher education, non-profit, or governmental policies and procedures.
