The University of Arizona Cancer Center Community Outreach and Engagement (UACC COE) looks forward to welcoming a Postdoctoral Research Associate to conduct groundbreaking community engaged research. COE is a dynamic interdisciplinary team situated in one of the 50 National Cancer Institute (NCI) designated comprehensive cancer centers in the country. The team has a primary mission of bridging the UACC with the communities in Arizona to ensure excellence in multidisciplinary, culturally relevant research, cancer prevention, and treatment.


The Postdoctoral Research Associate will work closely with the UACC Associate Director for COE, Dr. Jennifer Hatcher, report to the UACC Program Director of Policy & Translational Research, and be a part of a vibrant, interdisciplinary team of community engaged workers including community health workers, researchers, data analysts, and other partners.


We are interested in candidates whose research interest aligns with the mission of COE, cancer, and disparate communities of the Southwest with an emphasis on cancer disparities, management of epidemiological data collection and analysis and dissemination, policy analysis, and grant writing. The ideal candidate will be an innovative, self-starter, who embraces the wide-ranging cultural diversity of the people of Arizona. There will be opportunities for mentorship and participation in workshops and conferences, as well as opportunities to present in seminars, co-teach a public health disparities course, and lead the development of data-driven manuscripts. The postdoctoral research associate will contribute to developing new projects based on community and UACC priorities and will be expected to participate collaboratively in all COE activities. This position is located in our Phoenix offices, however, travel between campuses and throughout the state of Arizona will be required to successfully perform the duties and responsibilities of this position.


Duties and responsibilities will be performed in an environmentally controlled office setting subject to extended periods of sitting, keyboarding and manipulating a computer mouse; required to stand for varying lengths of time and walk moderate distances to perform work; frequent bending, reaching, lifting, pushing and pulling up to 25 pounds; days and schedule to be Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm and to include extended hours (evenings and weekends) as needed.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Ability to independently conduct mixed methods research with a deep understanding on at least two of the following: cancer epidemiology, health policy, health disparities, community outreach and engagement.
  • Develop research agendas and assist COE in bridging its programmatic activities with those of other UACC areas (i.e., Cancer Imaging, Cancer Prevention and Control, Cancer Biology, and Therapeutic Development).
  • Initiate and collaborate on peer-reviewed articles and present to internal and external UACC stakeholders.
  • Provide support and mentor undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Analyze small and large databases using SAS or STATA.
  • Assist COE leadership in ad-hoc projects or other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Effective communication both written and verbal.
  • Skilled in delivering presentations to an array of audiences at the local, state, and national levels.
  • Proficiency in statistical software.
  • Proficiency in quantitative methods and knowledge of qualitative methods, and able to effectively communicate findings to scientific and lay audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Candidate must be able to work independently or as a part of a team.
  • Experienced in community outreach and engagement activities.
  • Culturally sensitive to communities of the Southwest.
Minimum Qualifications
  • DrPH or PhD in a health sciences discipline or related field.
  • Previous experience with community engaged research required.
