Position Summary

This position reports to the Executive Director of The A Center, a unit under Student Success & Retention Innovation. The A Center provides academic advising for undeclared, transitional, and pre-health professions and pre-law programs. Under The A Center, the Coordinator, Executive Undergraduate Program provides programming assistance, academic coaching, and academic advising in areas such as student transition, major exploration, program implementation, and student retention. As a sub-initiative of the University of Arizona's Strategic Plan, the Executive Undergraduate Program consists of a cohort of undeclared, first-year students whom commute to campus and work in addition to attending school. The Coordinator, Executive Undergraduate Program will be responsible for the implementation and day-to-day execution of initiatives designed to support the cohort of students under the Executive Undergraduate Program. This individual will be well versed in student development theory and understand the various barriers students may encounter upon matriculation into higher education. This individual may also provide instruction for success and major exploration courses. This position will require evening and weekend work.

Duties & Responsibilities

*Responsible for the coordination and implementation of the Executive Undergraduate Program, including:
*Developing summer orientation initiatives and on-boarding initiative for the cohort
*Working across campus to establish strategic partners to assist for the program, including, but not limited to, Admissions, Student Success and Retention Innovation, Parking and Transportation Services, Think Tank, and Financial Aid
*Monitoring course enrollment and management for students in their fall semester
* Serve as constant and immediate source of support for students, highly visible, extremely accessible, well known, and available in-person, through email, and online
*Advises students on determining educational plans, choosing courses, and exploring majors, minors, and career options
*Provides academic coaching for students with academic difficulty on development of an academic action plan, and refers students to appropriate campus resources for assistance as needed
*In collaboration with campus retention efforts, implement student success and retention strategies; match students with the appropriate resources to aid in their success
*Implements special programming (including but not limited to academic success, mentoring, career placement, internships, engagement etc.)
*Assists students daily with solving a wide-range of problems in navigating institution and program infrastructure.
*Possesses a full range and depth of professional knowledge and experience which allows them to work independently
*Completing ongoing assessment of the program, including mid-semester grade checks, end of semester enrollment, monitoring of GPA, and major declaration
*Teach developmental success courses designed specifically for the challenges facing this cohort of students
*Utilizes university systems advisor tools with excellent proficiency
*Maintains knowledge of regulations and policies that impact students’ educational options
*Work collaboratively with the major exploration team in The A Center on best practices and programming efforts, including the Meet Your Major Fair, summer orientation, recruitment events, and UA Clicks
*Contributing to the development and implementation of departmental mission, goals and objectives
*This position will require some work on evenings and weekends
*Other duties as assigned

*Knowledge of advising practices and principles
*Knowledge of opportunities and challenges for undergraduate student success.
*Ability to commit to the needs of students and to promote positive student development.
*Ability to provide a strengths-based approach to student support and program development.
*Ability to work successfully with various student populations including, but not limited to: first-generation, veteran, low income, non-traditional, and historically underrepresented individuals.
*Ability to travel (locally, regionally and/or nationally); hold a valid driver's license.
*Ability to effectively prioritize and perform duties autonomously
*Ability to work evening and weekends, as needed
*Ability to work closely and effectively with multiple departments, organizations, and individuals in a complex environment
*Ability to work with MS Office Suite

Minimum Qualifications

*Bachelor's degree OR equivalent training and/or experience
*0 - 2 years of demonstrated knowledge of and successful experience in providing academic coaching, advising or in teaching/counseling in higher education
*Demonstrated effective communication with diverse student populations
*Demonstrated excellent communication and presentation skills and proactive, open and responsive interpersonal skills
*Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with university personnel: faculty, college deans, administrators, and staff, as well as representatives from business and from the community

Preferred Qualifications

*Master’s degree in Higher Education, Counseling or related field.
*Demonstrated successful experience working with post-secondary students
*Assist in the development and maintenance of a website and social media that provides information and relevant resources
*Demonstrated and successful experience in teaching freshman level courses at a two-year college or four-year undergraduate college/university.
*Proficiency with University of Arizona Student Information System (UAccess) or Peoplesoft systems (Oracle)
