The Department of Teaching, Learning, and Sociocultural Studies (TLS) announces an opportunity to join our faculty as a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Science Education. The position begins August 2020.

TLS is a diverse community of internationally recognized scholars with a commitment to equity, access, and social justice. We are a leader in early childhood, elementary, and secondary teacher preparation; teacher professional development; environmental and sustainability education; and preparing leaders for educational settings outside the traditional school classroom. Our faculty are invested in community-based social justice through research, teaching, and service. We attract a diverse and highly qualified student population to our undergraduate, master's, and doctoral programs and we offer a variety of pathways to success, including support for first generation college students, students with limited income resources, students from borderlands, and students from Indigenous communities. Our location in the culturally diverse Southwest United States and our long history of involvement with schools and communities provide rich settings in which to conduct field-based research and teacher preparation activities in the field of science education.

We seek a dynamic science educator committed to addressing issues of social justice in science education, preparing teachers to enact ambitious and equitable science instruction, and advancing the field of science education research. The appointee must have a record of research, scholarship, and service applicable to multicultural environments in urban and/or rural settings as well as experience teaching science in diverse classroom settings. We are looking for applicants with strengths in elementary science teacher education and interests in any of the following areas: science education for bilingual learners, Indigenous science education, science in early childhood settings, and/or secondary science education.

*Build an externally funded program of research leading to recognition as a nationally known science education scholar.
*Work collaboratively with TLS faculty to develop programs and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in science education and science teacher education.

*An earned doctorate in science education or a related field awarded by August, 2020.
*An active record of scholarship commensurate with level of experience.

*Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
*Teaching experience in diverse classroom (pK-12) settings.

*Experience working with diverse and/or minoritized populations, broadly defined.
*Biliteracy in English/Spanish
*Familiarity with the culture and context of the Southwest Border Region and Indigenous Nations
