Position Summary

The Department of Cellular and Molecular Medicine (CMM) at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Tucson is seeking a full time Instructional Designer to contribute to the department's teaching mission by overseeing development of online course materials for our Master's programs. Successful candidates will have expertise in relevant disciplines such as genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and/or histology. Candidates will be able to design, and assist other faculty in designing, innovative curricula incorporating emerging trends and best practices in online and 'flipped class' instruction. The incumbent will have the opportunity to engage in scholarly activities related to medical and/or graduate education. Technical expertise with development of state-of-the-art audiovisual curricular materials, and capability with online course management software systems such as Desire-2-Learn (D2L) are desired.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in the implementation of the Department's new online and Micro-campus offerings.
  • Develop online course materials in the biomedical sciences.
  • Assist faculty with course development, including learning objectives/outcomes, assembly of appropriate materials, organization of curricular content, recording of instructional videos, and design of online content delivery via D2L course management.
  • Participate in curriculum renewal discussions and help identify best practices in current medical science curriculum.
  • Adapt online courses to a micro-campus format which involves global collaboration to provide course and instructional material to faculty in other countries.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Minimum Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in biomedical sciences.
  • Expertise in relevant disciplines such as genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, and/or histology as demonstrated by work history.
Preferred Qualifications
  • PhD in biomedical sciences.
  • Experience developing/designing online courses.
  • Experience teaching online at the college/university level.
