Position Summary

The University of Arizona – Tucson, Department of Medical Imaging is seeking a Division Chief for Cardiothoracic Imaging. We are currently accepting applications for an Associate Professor level or above with fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Imaging which includes cardiac imaging training. Prospective candidates require strong leadership and management skills and a commitment to clinical excellence, innovation and education.

The Department provides clinical service to the Banner University Medical Center - Tucson (the sole Level 1 Trauma Center in southern Arizona), the Diamond Children's Medical Center, University of Arizona Cancer Center, Banner University Medical Center - South Campus, the Advanced Breast Imaging Center, University Medical Imaging, and North Campus Imaging Center.

The Banner University of Arizona Medical Center comprises a 650-bed tertiary care hospital and substantial outpatient practice. The hospital has three MR scanners (two1.5T and one 3T), which are equipped with advanced fast-scanning capabilities, three CTs, and advanced ultrasound. The newly opened outpatient facility has state-of-the-art PET/CT, 64-slice CT, two 3T MR scanners and ultrasound. There is collaboration with Cardiology for the coverage of cardiac imaging including CT, MR, nuclear and pediatric imaging. A lung screening program has been initiated in addition to an interstitial lung disease multidisciplinary conference.

The UA has a strong tradition of clinical care excellence, driven by innovation and discovery, with the Department of Medical Imaging faculty having extensive collaborations across departments in the College of Medicine and other colleges. There is active conferencing across the spectrum of specialties. The clinical case load serves as an excellent resource for our training programs, which includes both Diagnostic Radiology and Interventional Radiology Residencies and multiple accredited fellowship training programs. Cardiothoracic Imaging has a non- ACGME fellowship approved for one candidate.

The Research Division includes 12 research faculty and many cross-appointed faculty in Biomedical Engineering, Optical Sciences, Biochemistry and Chemistry and 14,000 sq. ft. of dedicated research space, providing a fertile ground for translational research. The Division is nationally recognized for their expertise in MR, CT and Gamma-Ray Imaging.

The department is seeking an individual who is able to work with diverse students, trainees and colleagues, and who has experience with a variety of teaching methods and curricular perspectives.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist the Department's broader needs through committee participation and leadership.
  • Provide leadership and oversight to the members of the Division in a fair and equitable manner.
  • Assure the provision of timely, high quality clinical care.
  • Ensure adequate coverage of the Division including call coverage and ability to work well with colleagues in Cardiology for cardiac imaging coverage.
  • Oversee faculty peer review.
  • Participate in the education of medical students, residents, and fellows.
  • Participate in clinical research and facilitate research performed by the other Division faulty, while maintaining compliance with all applicable regulatory and oversight bodies.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
  • Knowledge and skills of all aspects of Cardiothoracic Imaging including Cardiac imaging with completion of dedicated cardiac imaging fellowship training.
  • Ability to assist the Department in identification of effective working relationships, articulating the concerns that impact the workplace for physicians and staff.
  • Experience and knowledge of clinical and administrative leadership, collaborating with management, staff, and other physicians with the goal to improve service and quality to meet institutional goals.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for performance improvement related to patient's safety, error reduction, appropriateness, and quality, while promoting standardization.
Minimum Qualifications
  • M.D. or D.O degree.
  • Board certified in Diagnostic Radiology.
  • Fellowship training in Cardiothoracic Imaging including dedicated Cardiac Imaging Fellowship training.
  • Arizona State Medical License by time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with diverse patient populations.
